Importance of Health Professionals

CPR training for health professionals plays a critical role in providing quality healthcare services. Furthermore, their competence and expertise are vital in saving lives. As a result, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) have set Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements to ensure that health professionals maintain their knowledge, expertise, and competence.

Requirements

One of the minimum requirements to meet CPD standards is completing CPR training every three years. Specifically, the RACGP mandates that General Practitioners (GPs) complete CPR training to be counted towards the BLS/CPR CPD requirement for the 2020-2022 triennium. Fortunately, Brisbane First Aid provides Nationally Recognised CPR training for health professionals in Australia. Our CPR courses, officially known as HTLAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, which meets the RACGP requirements. In addition, our first aid courses follow the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines and include the use of an AED (defibrillator). We offer different delivery options involving a combination of online and face-to-face learning for these courses.

We understand the importance of hands-on training at Brisbane First Aid. For this reason, we ensure that mandatory practical tasks are performed in front of a trainer. Additionally, successful completion of our course awards GPs with 5 CPD points and meets the 3-yearly CPR/BLS requirement.

AHPRA

AHPRA works with the 15 National Boards to regulate health professionals in Australia. Specifically, the Optometry Board and other health professional boards mandate that CPR training is completed within the previous three registration periods. To find out more about your specific board’s CPD requirements, please visit the relevant board’s website.

NMBA

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requires its members to participate in annual CPD. This involves completing a minimum number of hours directly relevant to their context of practice. Fortunately, Brisbane First Aid’s HTLAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation courses can count towards nurse CPD.

Group training

At Brisbane First Aid, we offer group professional development sessions to deliver CPR training. These first aid courses can be tailored to suit your cohort’s needs. Specifically, a qualified training professional delivers our Nationally Recognised unit. They can also be accompanied by a networking session for participants. If required, we can also arrange catering for these events.

To claim your CPD points for CPR training, submit your CPR certificate (statement of attainment) via your CPD dashboard. Alternatively you can send the certificate directly to RACGP. To learn more about how we can help your group meet their professional development requirements, please contact our team at Brisbane First Aid.
